Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead on Thursday while he was doing a Facebook livestream in Mumbai’s Dahisar area. It was Mauris Noronha, the man seen in the livestream with Ghosalkar, who shot him and later killed himself.

Following the incident, the Mumbai Police registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act and transferred it to its crime branch unit for further investigation.

Here is a sequence of the unfolding of the incident:

  • The incident happened during a Facebook livestream in the office of Noronha, which is located in Mumbai’s Dahisar area. The livestream was recorded from the cellphone of Noronha. Some friends of Mauris and Ghosalkar were also present outside the room where the livestream was going on.

  • According to the police, Ghosalkar’s murder was planned by the accused, Mauris Noronha, a long time ago. Noronha believed that Ghosalkar was responsible for the rape charges levelled against him in 2022 for which he went to jail.

  • According to the police, Noronha fired five rounds at Ghosalkar and then killed himself with the same gun.

  • The pistol belonged to Noronha’s bodyguard, identified as Amarinder Mishra, and was issued by the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Phulpur in 2003. The licence of the weapon was due to expire in February 2026.

  • On Friday, police arrested Mishra under several sections of the Arms Act. Statements of as many as 10 people were also recorded by the police in the case at the publishing of this news report.
